Raghad Makhlouf, Teaching Artist


Raghad Makhlouf is an accomplished actress, director, and teaching artist, and a two time Helen Hayes Award nominee for Outstanding Ensemble. She is the Associate Director for The Art of Care Initiative at The Lab for Global Performance and Politics at Georgetown University.

With a dynamic career spanning Syria, Lebanon, Europe, and the United States, she has an extensive repertoire of stage performances and has appeared in more than 400 hours of television drama. In the US, she has collaborated with prestigious theaters and companies including Signature Theatre, Theater Alliance, Mosaic Theater, Shakespeare in The Woods, Spooky Action Theater, The Welders, Folger Theatre, and Shakespeare Theatre Company.

Her directing and assistant directing credits include “Frontiers Sans Frontiers” at Spooky Action Theater, “Live from Jenin” at the Voices Festival, and “Silicon” and “Rosaline’s Story” at Al Hamra Theatre in Syria. She also served for seven years as a teaching assistant and assistant director at the Higher Institute of Drama in Syria, and designed and led acting workshops for teenage Syrian refugees in Lebanon, supporting their emotional resilience.

Raghad believes in the therapeutic power of theater for underserved communities. In Syria, she was part of an interactive theater group called The Studio, touring towns and villages to engage residents and address local challenges through performance.

She holds a BFA from the Higher Institute of Drama in Syria and an MFA in Classical Acting from Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Academy at George Washington University.
