Broadway in Beirut: Elevating Theatre in Beirut & Across the Middle East

Broadway in Beirut enhances entertainment and elevates theatre production in Beirut and beyond by connecting Middle East-based producers, directors, artists, and organizations with professional resources from New York, Los Angeles, and the international entertainment community.

These resources help bring internationally recognized shows to Middle Eastern stages with professional production values inspired by Broadway, while strengthening local theatre resources, cultivating artists, and expanding performing arts opportunities for English- and Arabic-speaking audiences throughout the region.

Bringing More Resources to the Stage

Beirut and the Middle East have long been home to extraordinary storytelling, performance, music, and artistic talent. Broadway in Beirut builds upon that foundation by expanding the resources available to the people and organizations creating theatre in the region.

We work with producers, directors, theatres, schools, universities, companies, cultural institutions, and other organizations interested in producing ambitious live entertainment or strengthening their performing arts programming.

Depending on the needs of each project, Broadway in Beirut can provide or help connect organizations with:

  • Theatre and production consulting

  • Production planning and management

  • New York and Los Angeles-based theatrical resources and industry connections

  • Resources for staging internationally recognized plays and musicals

  • Creative development and production guidance

  • Professional theatrical references and best practices

  • Artist and educator development

  • Acting, directing, musical theatre, and production workshops

  • Masterclasses, seminars, and educational programming

  • Customized performing arts programs for children, teens, adults, and professionals

Our goal is not simply to bring Broadway to Beirut. It is to help elevate the resources, opportunities, and infrastructure available to theatre-makers throughout Beirut and the Middle East.

Broadway Standards. Middle Eastern Stages.

Broadway is internationally recognized as one of the world’s leading centers for professional commercial theatre. Its impact comes not only from the productions audiences see onstage, but from the creative and technical infrastructure behind them—from directing, casting and choreography to design, production management, rehearsal processes, and audience experience.

The industry remains a major cultural and economic force. During the 2024–2025 Broadway season, more than 14.7 million people attended Broadway performances, with shows generating approximately $1.89 billion in ticket sales.

Broadway in Beirut looks to those professional standards as a resource and inspiration while recognizing the enormous creative potential already present throughout the Middle East.

The objective isn’t to make Beirut imitate New York. It is to combine international resources and professional production practices with regional talent, stories, cultures, and audiences to create exceptional theatre locally.

That might mean staging an internationally recognized Broadway musical, supporting an original Arabic or bilingual production, consulting with an organization developing a new theatrical venture, connecting producers with specialized creative resources, or helping artists and educators expand their professional skills.

Cultivating the Arts

Supporting individual productions is only part of the mission.

Broadway in Beirut also seeks to cultivate a stronger theatrical ecosystem by investing in the artists, educators, students, and organizations who will create its future.

Through Moonlit Wings Productions, programming can include workshops, masterclasses, seminars, intensives, and customized educational experiences in areas such as acting, musical theatre, directing, audition technique, theatre production, creative development, and the entertainment industry.

Programs can be developed for schools, universities, theatres, arts organizations, companies, professional artists, and community groups, with opportunities for both English- and Arabic-speaking communities.

By sharing knowledge and creating connections between Beirut, New York, Los Angeles, and other creative centers, Broadway in Beirut aims to help expand what is possible for live theatre throughout the region.

From Beirut to the Broader Middle East

While Beirut is at the heart of the initiative, the vision extends beyond Lebanon.

Broadway in Beirut is available to collaborate with producers, organizations, educational institutions, and creative communities throughout the Middle East and Arabic-speaking countries.

Whether the goal is to produce an internationally recognized show, strengthen an existing theatre program, develop artists, introduce new educational opportunities, or access professional theatrical resources, each collaboration can be tailored to the organization’s needs.

A Personal Connection to Beirut

Broadway in Beirut was created by Walid Chaya, Founder and Artistic Director of Moonlit Wings Productions. Chaya’s passion for theatre began at age eight after seeing the Rahbani Brothers’ Mais El Reim in Baysour, Lebanon, and touring the theatre afterward.

A TheatreVCU graduate and American Theatre Wing SpringBoardNYC alum, Chaya brings his Lebanese roots and U.S. entertainment experience together through Broadway in Beirut to help elevate theatre and creative opportunities across the region.
